V-Discs - Paul L. Taylor
Actual V-Disc recordings made for the troops in World War II and recorded from a 1947 Trutone chest-type radio/record player. Some are in better shape than others. I aquired these recordings recently, and what you hear is simply the condition of the record itself. These recordings are for the purpose of preserving a part of World War II history.

PMB094 Personal Space: Brian Bennett, Giant Claw, Como Carousel, Makers, Buddy Merrill, Sone Institute, Deborah Washington & The Astros, The Rebel Force Band, Mills Brothers (02/09/2012) - Project Moonbase
This week's show takes its title from an astonishing piece of vinyl archaeology in the form of a new compilation by Dante Carfagna of the Ohio Soul Recordings website and Rob Sevier of the Numero Group. If you can imagine a heady fusion of 70s soul, primitive electronics and song-poem-like lyrics you might begin to get an idea of the treasures to be found on this collection. In addition to that we also have tracks from brand new albums by Giant Claw and the Sone Institute, more from the Como Zoo...

An episode of "The Perry Como Show", a popular variety series. This episode features guests Jeff Chandler, The Mills Brothers, and George Gobel. Lots of great music, some great comedy, along with some not so great comedy. Hey, at least the studio audience seem to be enjoying themselves. Please note that this video has a fault at 42:33 (please let me know if there is any problems with this file, such as the sync)

The Army was the original source of the V-Disc records, with their first being issued in October of 1943.The Army’s V-Disc project provided a monthly 'care' package of music specially recorded for troops overseas. Soldiers fighting a far-flung war welcomed these musical snapshots of life back home. The V-Disc project actually began in June 1941, six months before the United States' involvement in World War II, when Captain Howard Bronson was assigned to the Army's Recreation and Welfare Se...

Sadayatana 076: Signs and Stars
Show starts with a mashup of Public Domain's "Test Broadcast, Programme 2" and Another Neglected Hobby's "Voltage". I had played Voltage earlier in the week and was impressed enough for another go. Several tracks were played/mixed from The Chestnut Tree compilation. I've been listening to this in the car now for over a week. It will be a while yet before I'm through --it is almost six hours of music...

28) Simon - Doo-Wop & Girl Groups - Simon Maxwell-Stewart
Two essential stages in the development of pop music. The men of doo-wop may have laid the groundwork but the teen popettes of the wave of girl groups who followed in their wake really made pop melodrama a fine art (even if most of those songs were written by balding, middle-aged men). Featuring dozens of obscurities all abrim with that breezy '60s feelin'.
